The sophisticated aroma of a fine whiskey bar, captured in a cup. This exceptionally rare Japanese black tea is smoked over whisky barrel oak, creating a bold, smooth, and unforgettable flavour.

This is an exceptionally rare Japanese black tea (和紅茶 - wakocha) from the historic Sayama region. After being fully oxidized, the tea leaves are meticulously smoked over smoldering embers of aged whisky barrel oak. This process infuses the tea with a profound, peated smokiness that is beautifully balanced by the black tea's inherent malty sweetness and notes of dark honey. It is a bold, contemplative brew—a masterpiece of the unexpected and a new frontier for Japanese tea.

How to Brew Tea: A General Guide

There is an old saying in Japan: “Color from Shizuoka, Aroma from Uji, and Taste from Sayama.” For our co-founder Misaki, this celebrated region in Saitama is simply the taste of home. The secret to Sayama's renowned depth lies in its northern climate. The cold winters cause the tea leaves to grow thicker, developing a complex, full-bodied character that is profoundly rich and satisfying.

This inherent richness is then often perfected by a traditional finishing process known as Sayama Hi-ire, a special high-temperature firing that awakens a signature sweet, comforting aroma. The result is a powerful yet gentle tea, a perfect harmony of sweetness and depth that truly represents the heart of this historic region.
