Located in Saitama Prefecture, just north of Tokyo, Sayama is one of Japan's most resilient tea-producing regions, known for its cold winters. To withstand the harsh climate, the tea plants develop thick, hardy leaves. Today, we met farmers whose families have been growing tea for over 300 years, since the Edo Period in Japanese history. We were lucky enough to spend time sampling their unique teas and enjoying some fascinating conversation.
Saitama is also the home prefecture of our co-founder Misaki. She has been drinking Sayama-cha since she was a child (and is a big fan). We are looking forward to adding some delicious discoveries from this trip to our Prelude Tea lineup very soon!
埼玉県狭山市は、お茶の産地として冷涼であるため、茶の木は厚く、丈夫な葉を育てます。そのため、コクと深い味わい、渋みを持っているのが特徴です。
今日、私たちは狭山の地にて300年以上に渡りお茶を栽培してきた農家の方々にお会いしました。幸運にも、彼らのユニークなお茶を試飲させていただき、興味深いお話を聞かせていただくことができ、楽しい時間を過ごすことができました。
また、埼玉県は共同設立者である実咲季の出身地でもあります。彼女は子供の頃から狭山茶を飲んで育ち、大ファンなのです。
